Fashionista Nirvana ... Fashion Week........I Heart NYC!

New York City was fabulous! I was so happy to be in the city for NY Fashion Week. Below are a few of the pictures I took.

I had a wonderful trip to NYC despite my flight from hell thanks to Hurricane Hanna on Saturday. The tailwind rocked and rolled us to NY in record time. The weather was horrible but it did not keep me from hitting the ground running. One of the bonuses of being in NYC this week was going to the tents at Bryant Park for New York Fashion Week. I went down to check it out on Monday and ended up staying for hours ...playing fashion police and seeing what the fashionista divas were wearing. ..........skinny biyatches!More pics and commentary soon. I even extended my stay in NY for a few more days!

Headed to NYC......

Delta has a great weekend special to NYC so I am taking advantage of it and am leaving for NYC tomorrow morning. I grew up in the NY area and love it and am ready for my fix. I will be seeing my Georgetown BFF and some family members. Throw in some shopping and some good food and alot of walking and that outlines my weekend. Only problem....the weather. It is supposed to be rainy and windy tomorrow in NY and with Hurricane Hanna, let's hope I can get out of Atlanta. Have a great weekend!

One of my new favorite bargain wines Costo Kirkland Meritage

I have been hooked on Norton Reserve Malbec ever since I returned from Argentina. It is smooth, flavorful and never gives you a headache. I now have an alternative. I decided to try one of the Costco private label wines "Kirkland Meritage" which is a blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. It is also quite smooth and flavorful at just $10 a bottle. Here is the skinny on this vintage"
"Napa Valley has emerged as one of the finest sites in the world for the production of the red Bordeaux varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The soft, sweet red fruit notes of the Merlot with supple tannins coupled with the deep colors, and black currant cassis notes of the firmly tannic Cabernet Sauvignon, are lifted by the higher acidity of Cabernet Franc with its sweet tobacco and earthy character. The combination and blending of the three varietals add a complexity to the wine that a single varietal rarely achieves."
If you are a Costcoaholic as am I, definitely give it a try. The other items on my Costco weekly list include the following:

  • Rotisserie Chicken( Coco eats it with every meal and as an enticement to take all of her pills)

  • Grand Parisian Salad

  • Pineapple

  • Watermelon

  • London Broil(heat it on the grill for 10 minutes and it is cooked to perfection)

  • Chicken Lettuce Wraps

  • Coffee cake( only occasionally if I am feeling really sorry for myself)

  • Shrimp

  • And if I am really starved, a frozen yogurt on the way out.

One of my favorite Costco stories: About 3 years ago, when True Religion Jeans were initially in vogue, they sent a shipment to the Perimeter Costco. I bought over 150 pair of jeans and resold them on Ebay. CHA-CHING! Buy for $99..sell for $159.... you do the math. My profit went to my vacation fund. I was totally an Ebay whore. I went through my closet and sold alot of clothing with a designer label.....including a Chanel suit...sigh.....wish I didn't do that.

Sarah Palin's Speech Riddled with Inaccuracies

Okay, I promise that I will stop writing about politics and get back to guilty pleasures. I just couldn't resist blogging about the following article written by the Associated Press today. It is reported that Palin's speech at the RNC last night was full of exaggerations and lies. Check it out:

"Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her Republican supporters held back little Wednesday as they issued dismissive attacks on Barack Obama and flattering praise on her credentials to be vice president. In some cases, the reproach and the praise stretched the truth.

PALIN: "I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending … and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress 'thanks but no thanks' for that Bridge to Nowhere."

THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a "bridge to nowhere."

PALIN: "There is much to like and admire about our opponent. But listening to him speak, it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform — not even in the state senate."

THE FACTS: Compared to McCain and his two decades in the Senate, Obama does have a more meager record. But he has worked with Republicans to pass legislation that expanded efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to help destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. The legislation became law last year. To demean that accomplishment would be to also demean the work of Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, a respected foreign policy voice in the Senate. In Illinois, he was the leader on two big, contentious measures in Illinois: studying racial profiling by police and requiring recordings of interrogations in potential death penalty cases. He also successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform legislation.

PALIN: "The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars."

THE FACTS: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama's plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain's plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.
Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families.
He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. He would raise payroll taxes on taxpayers with incomes above $250,000, and he would raise corporate taxes. Small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year would see taxes rise.

The AP report also showed how Palin's champions have exaggerated the Alaskan governor's 'acheivements':
MCCAIN: "She's been governor of our largest state, in charge of 20 percent of America's energy supply … She's responsible for 20 percent of the nation's energy supply. I'm entertained by the comparison and I hope we can keep making that comparison that running a political campaign is somehow comparable to being the executive of the largest state in America," he said in an interview with ABC News' Charles Gibson.

THE FACTS: McCain's phrasing exaggerates both claims. Palin is governor of a state that ranks second nationally in crude oil production, but she's no more "responsible" for that resource than President Bush was when he was governor of Texas, another oil-producing state. In fact, her primary power is the ability to tax oil, which she did in concert with the Alaska Legislature. And where Alaska is the largest state in America, McCain could as easily have called it the 47th largest state — by population.

MCCAIN: "She's the commander of the Alaska National Guard. … She has been in charge, and she has had national security as one of her primary responsibilities," he said on ABC.

THE FACTS: While governors are in charge of their state guard units, that authority ends whenever those units are called to actual military service. When guard units are deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, for example, they assume those duties under "federal status," which means they report to the Defense Department, not their governors. Alaska's national guard units have a total of about 4,200 personnel, among the smallest of state guard organizations.

FORMER ARKANSAS GOV. MIKE HUCKABEE: Palin "got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska than Joe Biden got running for president of the United States."

THE FACTS: A whopper. Palin got 616 votes in the 1996 mayor's election, and got 909 in her 1999 re-election race, for a total of 1,525. Biden dropped out of the race after the Iowa caucuses, but he still got 76,165 votes in 23 states and the District of Columbia where he was on the ballot during the 2008 presidential primaries.

FORMER MASSACHUSETTS GOV. MITT ROMNEY: "We need change, all right — change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington! We have a prescription for every American who wants change in Washington — throw out the big-government liberals, and elect John McCain and Sarah Palin."

THE FACTS: A Back-to-the-Future moment. George W. Bush, a conservative Republican, has been president for nearly eight years. And until last year, Republicans controlled Congress. Only since January 2007 have Democrats have been in charge of the House and Senate.
We say if the 'means' are shady then it must mean the 'end' is shady.
No more shade!"

Sarah Palin Soap Opera - You Just Can't Make This Stuff Up!

Family values? Bristol Palin gets her drink on!! Hope these were taken pre pregnancy!

Sarah Palin shows her family values!

Well, I am thoroughly convinced that the Republican pundits are even dumber than I originally thought.......Sarah Spears Palin as Vice President? I might just bust my gut laughing at this ridiculous choice or leave the country out of sheer fear that a wanna be beauty queen could potentially be our Commander in Chief one day. Consider the following:

Sarah is a grown up Jon Benet beauty pageant runner up.. not even a winner and I just despise that entire scene

  • She did college on the five year plan and attended 3 colleges but graduated from the University of Idaho....a 3rd tier school which accepts 77% of its applicants...and she only got in as a tranfer student. Who da 'ho? Sarah da ho!

  • She loves to eat moose and is a card carrying NRA member who loves to hunt

  • She is a member of the Assembly of God....a pentecostal church.... she probably speaks in tongues, prays with snakes and as is far right as one can be.

  • She is the mother of 5.....a slow young 19 year old who couldnt get into college and joined the army, a pregnant 17 year old slut who missed months of school when she reportedly had mono, 2 middle children and a 4 month old down syndrome baby......even though Sarah claims to have "family values" she obviously cannot manage her own family. The teenager uses the down syndrome baby to cover her blossoming belly when Sarah was introduced on national television as the candidate. Why didn't the Enquirer pick up on this as fast as John Edward's affair?

  • Sarah married the professional ski mobiler in 1988. Her son is 19+. Probably was a real shotgun wedding! You do the math! Like mother, like daughter.

  • Wow......Sarah has so much foreign policy experience.....imagine she has left the country 3 times in 44 years!!!! Such a world traveler.....she has been to Ireland, Germany and Kuwait(yes she is in the hands of the oil lobbyists) and this is why McCain needs her as his trophy VP.....since he already has a trophy wife.

  • Sarah and Lynn Spears should co-author a book on parenting...birds of a feather.....trailer trash kindred sisters.

  • If John McCain dies while in office, this hussy could be our President....I am frightened of this prospect. What is Sarah gets knocked up while in the White House and John McCain succumbs to cancer or heart disease? Yikes!

This presidential race is now more interesting than the Young and the Restless....and a lot trashier. And I am shocked that the powers that be did not give Sarah a makeover because she is the epitome of a fashion faux pas. ....get rid of the stripper hair and the unflattering glasses.

This is like Barney Fife on Andy of Mayberry running as VP to John least they could have picked a cool Alaskan like one of the characters on Northern Exposure.

I only hope that others share my views about the poorest choice in election history and that this will allow more voters to see that Barak Obama is the only choice for President.
